Why do high quality exterior paints still look fresh years later? A big part of it comes down to UV stability.
Sunlight can gradually break down a paint, which can affect the colour, the finish and how well the surface holds up over time. That is why the quality of the paint really matters, especially outside.
They use pigments chosen for their lightfastness, binders that help protect the paint film (and locks in the colour), and formulas that are tested to cope with sunlight, moisture and temperature changes. Some pigments are naturally more resistant to UV damage than others, so the quality of what goes into the tin makes a real difference to how the colour performs once it is on the surface.
That is one of the reasons we choose to stock the brands we do – because they are made properly, tested extensively, and designed to perform beyond just looking good on day one.

The right ceiling paint can make a big difference to the finish.
Some people swear by brilliant white, some prefer a flatter matt finish, and some have a go-to brand they will defend with their life.
So, which one do you use?

Likes, comments and shares all make a real difference to a local business like ours.
They help us understand which posts you find useful, allow more people to discover what we do, and help our decorating tips, product advice and slightly questionable paint-related humour reach more local people and trades.
But one of the best ways to support us is to follow our page.
It helps new customers find Amersham Dec and tells them how we can help with paint, colour matching, wallpaper, decorating supplies, advice and all the bits you only realise you need halfway through a job.
So, if you find our posts helpful, we would massively appreciate a follow.
Thank you very much for supporting our local store – we really do appreciate every single click.

Is it dusty mushroom? Almost-Farrow-and-Ball-but-not-quite beige? Like, a-sort-of, warm sage but a bit brighter?
Whatever the colour is, showing us a photo on your phone usually isn’t the best way to match it – screens can make colours look warmer, cooler, brighter, darker… basically, a bit hit or miss.
Instead, bring us a sample. Wallpaper, a paint swatch, a bit of fabric, a tile, your gran’s fruit bowl – if it has a colour, we’ll do our best to match it.
We can match and mix paint on the spot, then help you choose the right finish for the job too.
Got a mystery colour? Bring it to us – we’ll match it.
